Content Opt-out post link: For End-of-World epidemic type scenarioAge: Appears to be in his early-mid 30s, but is actually 312 years old.
Gender/Sex: Masculine Male
Appearance: Eiyan is about 6'1" tall, a touch too thin, with long pitch black hair and eyes (irises only). He generally looks a bit sickly; pale with dark circles under his eyes.
History: Eiyan was born as a second son of the noble Czhelor family, named Ranyevik, in the Ceber's capital, Kriev. He lived there with his family - mother, father, one older brother, and two younger twin sisters.
As traditional in Ceber due to its overly dense population and emphasis on keeping family lines straight, any sons born after the first must not marry or have relations with a woman, both to keep the population within a manageable level, and also to ensure direct lines of succession among noble houses. It is also customary for the second son to apprentice to become an author (a type of religious leader.)
Eiyan was apprenticed to his uncle, an author, and became one himself after he completed his first autobiography at age 22.
While second born sons are not permitted to marry or involve themselves with a woman, it is permissible to enter into a bond with another man if they so desire it. Eiyan fell in love with and bonded to a man named Preyuri Zhivoy at the age of 24.
A childhood friend Gorodny, married to a Traveler woman named Helena. Long story short - Eiyan and Helena had an affair.
A few days after her disappearance, Eiyan fell ill with an unknown disease which symptoms include fever, joint pain, and coughing up a black slime. It also strangely stops/severely slows the aging process if one recovers from it.
He recovered but was left weakened with reoccurring bouts of the illness. The illness had also turned his hair and eyes a deep black. (Previously blond & blue eyed.)
The Black spread through his home city quickly, and within a matter of years, the continent of Ceber as a whole. Basically Ceber became a dead continent after a while.
Survivors typically left Ceber for other places. Eiyan wound up in Renjord, and changed his name from Ranyevik Czhelor to Eiyan of Kriev – a name pattern more in line with commoners.
He earned his title of Master Scribe while studying in Renjord, with the specialty of working with Travelers. He has had several apprentices, the last two being Dythear and Tillens, who he lives with at Husset’s Library.
Personality: Eiyan is a gentle and humble man, though he was not always so in his youth. He's come from being a care free, entitled noble who wanted nothing more but parties and pleasure out of life, to one who cares about others greatly and endeavors to help them make the right choices.
Because of his behavior when he was younger, which led to some horrible events, he feels it is his duty to teach others to pay more attention to their actions and consequences. The best way to do this as an authorist is to remember to read and learn from others' recorded experiences to find the right course of action.
He enjoys reading, practicing fancier calligraphy when he can, listening to people talk about themselves, and being social.
Sometimes he becomes a bit melancholy when he is alone with his thoughts, but for the most part he tries to keep himself distracted with his work, which he feels is part of his atonement.
He endeavors to be helpful, and he does his best to console those who are suffering and provide a listening ear. Offering advice based upon his readings is a normal part of the author's job description.
Abilities: - Calligraphy: As a master scribe, Eiyan is an expert at calligraphy and writing, as well as talented with illustrations reproducing near-exact copies of almost anything on paper that can be reproduced by quill and ink. Forgery is within his capabilities, but not something he would typically do, because it's bad, mmkay?
- Book Binding
- Paper, Quill, & Ink Making
Inventory: - Ink gaurds - separate black sleeve attachments shaped slightly triangular from the wrist to elbow that protects clothing from ink, and also serve as a kind of small pocket.
- Gold medallion on a chain with an inscription
- 3 quills
- 1 small pot of black ink
- 2 rolls of parchment
Anything else: He comes from a world that receives it's own "Travelers" from other worlds. As an author who specializes in Travelers, he might have encountered some concepts, like magic or airplanes/flying machines, but his memory/understanding of them are hazy or vague at best. He won't know anything about your character's specific world or any terms unique to it, though.
There is also a shit ton of backstory and world info that I don't have space to put here, nor are you really interested in it.
